FOR
FALL
2021
You
may
be
wondering
what
you
can
do
to
help
prepare
your
child
for
5th
grade.
The
most
important
thing
is
that
your
child
read
for
at
least
25
minutes
each
day.
Chapter
books
help
build
reading
stamina
and
help
comprehension.
It
is
also
important
to
practice
math
facts
for
multiplication
and
division.
Students
who
begin
5th
grade
with
solid
mastery
of
math
facts
have
a
definite
advantage.
Below
you
will
find
a
list
of
resources
and
activities
that
will
benefit
your
child.
As
always
you
can
contact
your
child's
teacher
with
questions,
comments,
or
concerns.
We
hope
you
stay
safe
and
enjoy
the
quality
time
with
your
family!
Reading-
Read 25+ minutes per day (any reading is good reading- this can be magazine articles, picture books, chapter books, newspaper articles, recipes, etc…)
Listen to reading- storylineonline.net is a great resource where famous actors/actresses read to you.
Discuss
what
you
have
read:
Find
the
main
idea,
discuss
the
setting/characters/conflict/resolution,
find
cause
and
effect/compare/contrast
scenarios,
locate
fact
vs.
opinion,
etc…
Math-
The
most
powerful
skill
your
child
can
practice
right
now
is
memorization
of
math
facts
(multiplication
and
division).
This
is
such
an
important
building
block
for
all
current
and
future
middle
school
math
concepts.
Writing-
Stories- Ask your child to write a personal narrative (a story about themselves and an event that has happened in their lifetime)
Research papers- Have your child conduct research on a topic of choice . They can document their findings on paper or electronically and then can create a Word document/powerpoint/sway/poster/etc. on their findings.
Free
write-
Allow
your
child
to
free
write.
This
could
be
in
the
form
of
a
journal
of
their
time
away
from
school,
a
fictional
story,
a
letter
to
a
friend
or
family
member
that
can
be
mailed,
etc…
