What’s up in second grade…
Our field trip to Hylton Performing Arts has been canceled and cannot be rescheduled. Teachers are looking into other field trip options and will let parents know as soon as a new trip is rescheduled. Thank you for your patience!
In math, students are looking at Place Value and coins. They are determining what each digit in a three-digit number stands for and how it is represented in a picture. Coins are being counted each week. Amounts of coins are being compared using the words greater than, less than, and equal. Using real coins at home can be a great way to practice these skills.
graders are being persuasive. They are writing book reviews with a summary and an opinion on the book. As your child reads for homework ask him/her to give a review on the book. Ask if he/she would recommend the book to others with an explanation for the opinion.
We have two science units for the next few weeks-Ecosystems and Habitats/Adaptations. The second part of this unit is about ways animals adapt. We will look at how animals use migration, hibernation, and camouflage to adapt to the changes in their environments. We will also talk about how plants go dormant in the winter. The Adaptations test will be next week.
In reading, our comprehension skill is Making Predictions. As your child reads each night ask him/her to tell what will happen next and why he/she made that prediction.
Students are participating in a book swap monthly. Each child can get a book from the book cart each month. In order to get a book on April 5th, students must return their borrowed book cart books.
Reading Homework— Please continue to have your child(ren) read for at least 20 minutes nightly. Record the title in the agenda and please initial the agenda.
