What’s up in second grade…
On Monday, April 24th we will have an in-house field trip presented by Shenandoah Science Museum. Students will engage in an interactive Adaptations Program. If you have not sent in $3.25 for this additional field trip please do so as soon as possible. Our field trip to Silver Lake will be on May 11th.
On Friday, April 21st students will celebrate Earth Day! Please ensure that your child is dressed casually because each class will be planting in our school garden. We look forward to helping our school be GREEN!
In math, students are looking at fractions of a whole and fractions of a set. They are writing a numerator (the number of parts in question) over the denominator (the total number of parts). Students are comparing fractions to see which are greater and which are smaller. See if your child can talk about fractions at the dinner table tonight. Fractions tie in well with food.
graders are poets! They are writing rhyming and non-rhyming poems with detailed feelings and senses. They will hear poetry from a variety of authors.
Our current social studies unit is Changes in Communities over Time. They are investigating how transporation, jobs, and population have changed from the past to the present. This week we looked at primary (original) sources and secondary (copies) sources. The At-Home Interview is due Friday, April 21st.
In reading, our comprehension skill is Compare and Contrast. As your child reads each night ask him/her to compare characters to tell how they are alike. Then have your child contrast the characters' actions.
Reading Homework— Please continue to have your child(ren) read for at least 20 minutes nightly. Record the title in the agenda and please initial the agenda.
Reminder— Please send in one healthy snack each day.
